Who this is for
Owners of concrete or clay tile roofs — S-tile, barrel, or flat profile — especially homes built between the mid-1990s and mid-2000s.
The detail
What this work actually involves.
Drive any Valley neighborhood built after 1990 and nearly every roof is tile. It is the right material for this climate: it shades the deck, it survives UV that destroys most things, and the tile itself can last fifty years or more. The problem is that tile is a rain shield, not a waterproof membrane. The membrane is the underlayment beneath it, and in Phoenix heat that layer is on a clock.
That is why so many tile roofs need work while the tile still looks brand new. A lift-and-re-lay — sometimes called a tile re-underlayment — is the standard fix: we stack the tile off the roof, strip the old felt, repair the deck, install new underlayment and battens, then re-set your original tile course by course. Broken pieces get swapped from salvage or matched, and the ridge and hips get re-bedded.
We work S-tile, barrel and flat concrete profiles, along with clay. Details are where tile roofs live or die: valley metal wide enough for Arizona debris, properly flashed headwalls and pan tiles, mortar at ridge and hip that is bedded rather than smeared, and eave closure that keeps birds and pack rats out of the roof.

My tile looks perfect. Why would the roof need work?
Because the tile is not the waterproofing. The underlayment under it is, and heat and UV age that layer far faster than the tile above it. Perfect-looking tile over failed underlayment is the single most common roof condition in the Valley.
Can you match my existing tile?
Usually. We salvage and re-use your tile wherever it is sound, and pull replacements from salvage stock for the pieces that broke. Exact colour matching on a discontinued profile is harder — we will tell you honestly what we can and cannot match.
Is a tile roof heavier than my house can handle?
If the home was framed for tile it is fine. If you are converting a shingle roof to tile, the structure has to be evaluated first — that is a real engineering question, not a roofing preference.
What about the mortar cracking at my ridge?
Very common here. Thermal cycling opens mortar joints, and once open they let water and pack rats in. Re-pointing ridge and hip is one of the most worthwhile small jobs on a tile roof.
